Colombian Eyes on Government
Proposal
President Alvaro Uribe´s
humanitarian exchange proposal
with Revolutionary Armed Forces
of Colombia (FARC) was the hot
news of the week ending
Saturday.
However, its text arouses
suspicion over the Executive´s
intention to exchange 58
prisoners for 500 jailed FARC
fighters.
Uribe´s initiative did not refer
to the demilitarization of
Pradera and Florida
municipalities, as the insurgent
group demands to carry out the
negotiation.
Hence, the Colombian dignitary
explained Friday he did not
include a territorial
demarcation as he wants to reach
a consensus with the FARC over
the possibilities to achieve the
humanitarian agreement and a
peaceful negotiation.
