Traffic Accident Kills Entire Family
With the death of three family members in a traffic accidents on the Bernardo Soto highway near San Ramón, November has been the worst month for traffic fatalities, according to the Polícia de Tránsito.

Yesterday's accident occurred in the area known as La Cima, when a Gabriel Calderón, 45, his wife, Marisol Rodríguez, 42, and their only child, María Gabriela, only 8 years of age, died when they hit another vehicle dead on. Three others were seriously hurt in the collision.

The news footage of the traffic accident has become common on the morning news as spectacular and deadly accidents have become a daily occurrence.

German Marín, director of the Polícia de Tránsito said the possible cause of yesterday's tragic accident could be one of the drivers falling asleep at the wheel.

To date, 285 persons have lost their lives on the nation's roads, surpassing last year's figures and there is still December to go.

The road with the highest deaths resulting from traffic accidents are headed by the Interamerican Norte (San José - Liberia), th Interamerican Sur (San José - Panama) and the route to Limón. One third of all traffic fatalities have occurred on the three highways, according to official reports.

Yesterday's accident occurred at 6:00am, only a couple of kilometres from the major intersection into San Ramón. The young man driving a Mitsubishi, a close friend of the family, slammed into a Range Rover, returning from Guanacaste.

The occupants of the Range Rover, Ricardo Quirós Morales, his wife Sioni Aray and their children Diana, Catalina and Laura, who suffered injuries in the accident. The Quirós family was travelling from Cartago to San Ramón to attend the funeral of Quiró's brother.
