Chavez Extols Energy Revolution's Progress
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez highlighted on Saturday advances in the implementation of the Mission Energy Revolution, launched in mid-November to improve energy efficiency in the nation.

In Maracaibo, the statesman attended the change of the light bulb completing the first million of units replaced in just eight days as part of a project that includes in its first phase the states of Zulia, Falcón, Miranda, Carabobo plus the Capital District.

Chavez stressed that the new bulbs scarcely consume 20 percent compared to the incandescent lamps, which allow the country to save 2,000 megawatts of electricity, roughly equal to about 12.7 percent of domestic energy demand.

In addition, he read a letter from Cuban President Fidel Castro, who applauds the Venezuelan initiative and says that Chavez will be the most prestigious environmental defender for undertaking it.
