South American Nations Sign
Visa-Free Tourism Deal
The Community of South American
Nations (CSN) decided on Friday
to eliminate tourist visas
within its 12 member nations, a
move to boost the tourist
industry in the region.
An agreement to that effect was
signed by the representatives
from 12 nations during the third
CSN foreign ministers' meeting
here.
The agreement allows any
national of those nations to
enter any CSN nation for 90 days
with only one identity document,
and the visa can be extended.
CSN citizens will still need to
fulfill hygiene, customs and tax
rules when crossing borders, and
will not be able to work under
the visa-free regime, it says.
The CSN foreign ministers were
meeting to prepare for the Dec.
8-9 CSN summit in the Bolivian
city of Cochabamba.
The CSN groups Argentina,
Bolivia, Brazil, Chile,
Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana,
Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Uruguay
and Venezuela.
