FMLN Proposes Increase of
Salvadoran Budget
The Farabundo Marti National
Liberation Front (FMLN) of El
Salvador proposed an alternative
budget project for the nation
for next year, local media said
here Thursday.
FMLN requested an increase of
1.7 billion dollars through the
creation of taxes in four
specific sectors.
According to FMLN deputy
Salvador Arias, the idea is to
increase allocations for
institutions with problems to
render services to the
Salvadoran population.
The budget for the Public Health
Ministry should be raised by 100
million dollars, and for the
sector of education, in 476
million dollars, said Arias.
Another aspiration is to
increase the allocations for the
Interior Ministry up to 506
million dollars, for delinquency
prevention programs.
To finance this increase FMLN
proposed to increase income
taxes for natural and judicial
residents up to 30 percent, with
incomes of over 100,000 dollars
a year.
They also advocated for the
establishment of a tax for
credits and debits in current
accounts and the creation of a
fiscal tax on patrimony, which
they did not specify.
The FMLN fiscal budget
proposition presented to the
Executive was strongly rejected
by the representatives of the
Nationalist Republican Alliance
(ARENA).
The negotiating process will
allow approving the 2007
Salvadoran budget next week,
said authorities.
