Central American Women Know Violent Death
Central America reported from 2000 to 20005 some 4,000 slain women.

A report by Panama's Ombudsman Office "Situation of Female Murder in Central America" says 204 these cases were in its territory.

The document also "tries to ID the main causes of the phenomena and outline action," said Ombudsman Monica Perez.

Official data warns that domestic violence has climbed 12 percent compared to 2005 and Alianza del Movimiento de Mujeres de Panama reported 400 female victims of rape or incest.

Also 1,216 accusations of domestic violence to the Justice Ministry triggered official concern and 66 women and their children were sent to temporary shelters.
