Quintuplets Doing Fine, But in
Delicate Condition
The quintuplets born yesterday
at the Hospital México to a
woman identified only by her
last name, Vílchez Villalobos, a
resident of Heredia, are in
delicate condition, according to
Dr. Mario González Quijano.
Dr. González said that they had
expected four babies and were
surprised at the first. Three of
the babies are boys, while two
are girls.
The babies were delivered by
caesarian after 26 weeks
gestation, weighing in at
between 550 grams and 960 grams
and are being kept in incubators
at the neonatology section of
the hospital.
Dr. González refused to allow
photos to be taken of the
newborns, stating health reasons
for the ban and that the
hospital is respecting the
wishes of the family.
Earlier this year a woman gave
birth to quadruplets at the
Hospital Nacional de las Mujeres,
however, three weeks later one
of the babies died.
