Eight Escaped Convict Caught
The apprehension of Rafael
Herrera Castro yesterday in
Pérez Zeledón, brings all the
escapees of the La Reforma
prison back behind bars. Herrera
and seven others escaped from
the Alajuela prison last month
and was the last to be caught.
Police say Herrera was picked up
during a routine police
operation though he had changed
his appearance to fool the
authorities. The man had no
identity on him and although he
had changed the colour of his
hair and other physical
characteristics, police
recognized the man as the
escaped convict.
Officials say the man had been
hiding out in the areas of
Dominicalito in the province of
Puntarenas and was on his way
looking for work when he was
intercepted by the Fuerza
Pública (police).
Freddy Méndez, a police
spokesperson, said that the man
who was convicted to 45 years
prison for assault, robbery,
rape and carrying weaposn, gave
police no resistance during his
capture.
Herrera and the others escaped
from La Reforma on October 9.
Six on the others are no behind
bars, while one was killed
during a shootout with police to
avoid his capture.
