More Women Murdered in El
Salvador
As well as classifying as the
most violent country in Central
America, with an average of 11
homicides a day, El Salvador is
on the top of the regionós list
for assassinated women.
According to Human Rights
defense attorney Beatrice de
Carrillo, between January and
August, 300 Salvadorian women
were killed by criminal actions.
The State is evidently unaware
of the wave of women murders,
regretted the expert, who
denounced that the majority of
crimes have gone unpunished.
De Carrillo called attention to
the serious crime situation that
affects the country and the lack
of police and fiscal strategy to
investigate and stop crimes
against women.
The official pointed out that
violence is committed in both
domestic and public places,
including workplaces, where
labor violations prevail and
sexual harassment cases abound,
as much in state institutions as
in private companies, she said.
A recent survey in El Salvador
found that 90 percent of those
interviewed recognized that the
majority of women and children
are victims of violence.
