475 Kg Bust at Peñas Blancas
More busts continue to make the
headlines, as yesterday the
Policía de Control de Drogas (PCD)
- drug enforcement police -
confiscated 475 kilos of cocaine
at the Peñas Blancas border
crossing with Nicaragua.
According to the vice-minister
of Seguridad Pública, Gerardo
Lázcarez, a undisclosed number
of trucks made their way into
Costa Rica a number of times, to
load the drugs in the areas of
San Carlos, and headed for the
border, which gave rise to
suspicions by the authorities.
Yesterday's detention netted
police the drivers of the
trucks, two Panamanian
nationals.
The trucks are allegedly owned
by a Mexican drug cartel.
This year the total net from
drug busts is at 13 tons of
cocaine, confiscated in various
police operations, in one case
with the help of the United
States Coast Guard.
