Uruguay-Cuba Solidarity Strengthened
Cuba and Uruguay wrote a new chapter of mutual solidarity on Sunday when Cuban vice president Carlos Lage addressed the act of support to the Caribbean country in a historical stage, the same where Che spoke 45 years ago.

The speech of Cuban vice President in the auditorium of the University of the Republic of Uruguay where Commander Ernesto Che Guevara spoke, addressed hundreds of students, parents, popular leaders and officials, who gave a warm welcome to the Cuban delegation attending the 16th Ibero American Summit.

The Cuban vice president quoted a statement of Che Guevara´ historical speech at that Uruguayan university 45 years ago as saying: "I would like to tell you that we will never forget the impression we have made of the Uruguayan people and that memory will recall us every day that our commitment is still much greater with it than with the six million and a half Cubans, since our commitment has extended the Cuban frontiers.

Lage´s speech received a hearty ovation from the audience, which also included students graduated from Havana"s Latin American School of Medicine, and patients cured by the Operation Miracle, which has helped hundreds of thousands of people to recover their sight.

I have to thank the Uruguayan people for their constant solidarity with the Cuban Revolution, and give them a revolutionary hug and greetings from President Fidel Castro, said Lage.

People chanting long live Fidel and waving both countries´ flags interrupted for several minutes Lage´s speech, which was followed with interest by the rector of the university Rodrigo Arsena, as well as other Uruguayan officials.
