Coca Cola Pulls Ad At Health
Minister Request
The Coca Cola company in Costa
Rica made the Ministra de Salud
(Health Ministry), María Luisa
Avila, very happy when it pulled
its latest ad campaing off the
air. The minister showed her
pleasure saying that the
advertising by the international
company was in counterproductive
to the forming of healthy habits
of children and the Costa Rican
population in general.
The television ad featured a
small boy at the dinner table
that his mother had prepared
full of salads, vegetables, fish
and lasgna, among other foods,
but what the boy what made the
boy really happy was his bottle
of coke.
The Health minister said that
the advertising is against all
nutricional policies and takes
away from their efforts to form
healthy eating habits among the
population and reduce illness
through bad eating habits.
Avila said she had asked the
Coca Cola company to pull the ad
and was happy that they
complied.
"It is important to be aware of
products that have litlle
nutritional value that the
little one place importance to
because of their attractive
advertising...", said Avila.
