Cuban Ambassador Tells Japanese
Press of Blockade
The Cuban Embassy in Japan held
a news conference Tuesday, with
the 20 most influential Japanese
media, to denounce and explain
the effects of the US
intensification of its
financial, economic and
commercial blockade of Cuba.
Orlando Hernandez, chief of the
diplomatic mission, denounced
the millions (81 million this
year alone) in economic losses
this has meant for the Cuban
people and emphasized how these
sanctions negatively influence
relations with third countries.
Japan is one of the main
metal-importing countries and
one of the major special steel
exporting countries in the
world, and Hernandez noted that
the new White House measures are
trying to prevent sale of Cuban
nickel to other countries,
something of which Tokyo is not
unaware.
The rules affecting the
Caribbean nation for more than
40 years have caused economic
losses of over 86 billion
dollars and are considered
genocidal.
The diplomat set out the
evidence appearing in a report
to UN Secretary General Kofi
Annan regarding the resolution
to condemn that mechanism, on
which the UN General Assembly
will decide November 8.
