ICE Offices To Be Closed 60 Hours Next Week
If you need to visit the offices of the Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) - you know the state telecommunications monopoly - next week, you better plan ahead.

The Frente Interno de Trabajadores (FIT), the union that represents ICE workers, announced that it will aks its membership to walk off the job on Wednesday June 7 and Thursday June 8 - a period of 48 hours.

Add to that that all public sector workers will have the morning of Friday June 9 off, the day of the opening 2006 World Cup game, ICE customers better get their business done early in the week or wait until the following week.

For sure the ICE offices will be jam packed Friday afternoon and the following day Saturday.

Jorge Arguedas, head of the FIT, said he recognizes that the strike will affect clients of the institution and denied that in planning the strike they did not take into account the government decree for June 9.

In any case, Arguedas added, that while the workers are off on strike or watching the soccer games, ICE will continue to provide emergency repair services.
