Guatemalan Governor Killed
Julio Urrea Ruiz, governor of
the department of Solola,
Guatemala, was shot dead hours
before the visit of President
Oscar Berger to this region on
Saturday.
Gunmen killed Urrea and his
driver while returning from a
work meeting.
The double killing could suspend
the presidential agenda in
Solola, scheduled to monitor
recovery projects after damages
caused by Hurricane Stan in
October 2005.
Presidential spokeswoman Rosa
Maria de Frade said the head of
state will meet with government
officials to analyze the
situation after Urrea´s murder.
