Winning Invention
Jose Jimenez, Olga Yuts and Diego Ulate placed third among over 1,000 young scientists partaking in the annual science and engineering school fair sponsored by Intel in Indianapolis.

The three Costa Rican youngsters won the bronze medal in the group research on the environment category for their invention, consisting in the use of a fungus that degrades used compact discs in a fashion which is much cheaper and friendly with the environment than all of the existing commercial options.

Science News rewarded the trio with $1,000 cash, too.
