Sexual Abuser Judge On The Lam; Tico Teacher Wanted For Sexual Abuse Arrested in the U.S.
The Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) has mounted an intense operation to find Gerardo Calero Miranda, the former judge who was found by the juzgado Contravencional y de Menor Cuantía de Sarapiquí, Heredia, for sexually abusing a 14 year old girl while he was on the bench.

Police raided the home of the former judge located in Santa Lucía de Barva de Heredia to apprehend the man following the issuance of an order for his capture. The former judge was sentenced to four years in prison.

At the surprise of police, the former judge was not home and found an even bigger surprise when the items in the small apartment contained computer equipment and household appliances reported stolen.

Police said that the items recovered at the residence of the former judge were reported stolen from the man's wife, taking them to his hideaway while she was out.

Calero was accused in June of 2002 by a student at the Colegio de Barva de Heredia, when according to the young girl, the former judge had ordered her to take off her blouse and bra and tried to kiss. Calero was at the time giving "theatre" classes at the college.


In an unrelated case, José William Quintero Espinoza, arrived in Costa Rica on Friday after being arrested in the United States, wanted by Costa Rican authorities for the sexual abuse of three girls eight years of age.

The teacher had fled Costa Rica following the conviction on charges dating back to 1992 when Quintero worked as school teacher in San Isidro de Pérez Zeledón.

The man was apprehended in Montville, New Jersey.
