Nicaragua, Calmed after Doctors Strike
Nicaraguan population has started enjoying a calm climate after the agreement between the government and representatives of the medical sector to stop a strike which semi paralyzed public hospitals in the country for six months.

The end of the strike, carried out by the nearly 3,000 affiliates of the Medical Federation since November, was announced Friday evening by the leader Elio Artola and the Health Minister Margarita Gurdian.

Health workers accepted the 30 percent salary increase offered by the executive, while authorities committed to negotiate a definite salary policy.

Nicaraguan health employees, earning between 200 and 500 dollars a month, self-defined as the ones with the most negligible salaries in Central America and have asked for a progressive parity with their colleagues in the region.

Access to life insurance, professional training, scholarships and a fair pension were some of the benefits gained by the sector.
