FELAP Looks at Development, Poverty
Juan Carlos Camaño, chair of the Latin American Journalism Federation (FELAP), said Thursday that any analysis on development and poverty causes cannot be serious if they are only tackled on the surface.

Camaño noted the importance to hold in Panama City the first Latin American Inter Parliamentary Congress on the Right to Communication, Poverty Eradication and Development.

He reminded that nowadays many children die malnourished, communication continues to be extremely market-oriented and there is a nation leading an imperialist and warlike process.

"If a conference like this does not go into substantial issues and causes, it would be ignoring a billion starving people plus modern slaves and illiterate people without access to food, life and computer sciences," he added.

Sponsored by PARLATINO and UNESCO, the two-day meeting is attended by delegates from Honduras, Peru, Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Venezuela, Guatemala, Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, Spain, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Colombia and Panama.
