Guimaraes Reduces Team to 24
Players
Costa Rica coach Alexandre
Guimaraes reduced his World Cup
pre-squad on Tuesday from 28 to
24 players and will have to omit
one more by the May 15 deadline.
However two defenders, Harold
Wallace and Michael Rodriguez
are doubtful because of recent
knee operations.
Bryan Ruiz and Carlos Johnson
are knocking on the door of the
team as replacements.
The Costa Ricans – who reached
the second round in the 1990
World Cup which included a shock
defeat of Scotland in the group
stage – leave San José on May 16
and will play the opening match
of the World Cup against hosts
Germany in Group A on June 9.
Costa Rica will also face Poland
and Ecuador in their first round
group.
