Watching Peru Elections
Organization of American States
(OAS) observers are opening
Monday their operation center in
Peru to monitor the April 9
elections.
The group, made up of 80 people
from Canada, Central America,
Argentina and Colombia, is led
by Canadian Lloyd Axworthy.
Axworthy is scheduled to meet
with several presidential
nominees and the OAS will
present the report on the
Peruvian vote at the end of the
process.
About 20 candidates are
disputing the Peruvian
presidency at the April 9
voting, when over 16 million
people over 18 have been called.
If any candidate gets more than
the 50 percent of the valid
ballots, then the two most-voted
will go to the May 7 run-off.
