Vanished Children, Concern in
Salvador
El Salvador Human Rights
attorney Beatrice de Carrillo
announced Friday she would open
a file on children who have
disappeared and would personally
direct the investigations.
"Thousands of children have
disappeared due to various
causes and authorities have
shown no inclination to solve
such a delicate situation. This
attorney's office will work
diligently on this very
sensitive matter to the final
consequences," said the
official.
Beyond those cases of children
who disappeared during the war,
De Carrillo committed to
investigate the trade in
children beyond national
frontiers, and criticized the
position of Foreign Relations
Minister Francisco Lainez, whose
reaction to the controversial
"Serrano" case did not convince
the affected families.
This huge scandal was sparked by
the disappearance of two little
girls, aged three and seven,
without a single trace, which
was even brought to the
Inter-American Human Rights
Court.
