7 Colombian drug traffickers delivered to US
Seven Colombian drug traffickers have been extradited to the United States and will stand trial there, Colombian police confirmed on Saturday.

The seven, escorted by a U.S. judicial mission, boarded on a U.S.-bound flight at Bogota international airport on Friday night.

They were detained for drug trafficking and money laundering in2004 and 2005. According to the extradition treaty signed by the two countries in 1997, chief criminals who committed drug trafficking and related felonies are subject to extradition to the United States.

The drug traffickers will be brought to stand trial in Florida, New York and Maryland in the United States after appearing at Colombian courts, and then they will be brought to Puerto Rico to stand trial there, media reported.

Official statistics show that more than 300 Colombian drug traffickers have been extradited to the United States since 2002.

Colombia is the world's largest cocaine producing and exporting country, where more than 500 tons of cocaine flows to other parts of the world annually. The United States and Europe, among others, are the worst affected.
