Bolivian Elections, a Plebiscite
The Constituency Assembly and an
autonomy referendum hint one
week short a poll on the on
going changes and a depreted
opposition in Bolivia.
The campaign has also involved
violent events, the most serious
was Saturday when the opposition
threw stones at the copter of
Vice President Alvaro Garcia
impeding its landing in Santa
Cruz Province.
President Evo Morales asked at a
rally in Santa Cruz -bastion of
the opposition made up of
regionalists, businessmen and
conservatives- to back the
elections to consolidate the
changes.
Morales requested support for
the Movement Towards Socialism
(MAS) that needs 70 percent the
votes to bury the old system of
exclusions and privatizations
and recover the national
resources.
He added that the votes will
reflect the people's support at
the four main Bolivian cities,
which Apoyo Opinion y Mercado
polling company rates in 75
percent.
