UNESCO Awards Afro-Latam Dance Co.
Los Guloyas, a dance company from San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, earned broad success on its first overseas performance at the Third African-American Festival (FITA) in Caracas.

The Group, whose colorful vests show Caribbean joy, is winner of the "Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage" UNESCO award, for its dances of Dominican folklore at the FITA opening in Maracay, Aragua, over 68 miles from Caracas.

Representative Eddy Lluberes said they display carnival traditions originated in the fusion of British, Caribbean and French cultures among slaves at sugar cane plantations, as such transmitting their ancestors heritage since 1870 in Antigua, Dominica and Barbados.

The five-day celebration will show the unbreakable bond that entwines Africa and Latin America since the 15th century through master conferences, workshops and conferences.

Also present are artists, Researchers and lecturers from Brazil, Cuba, the US , Haiti, Mali, Mexico, Nigeria, Puerto Rico and Trinidad and Tobago.
