Narcos Traying to Infiltrate Nicaraguan Army
The Nicaragua Navy chief Santiago Estrada warned on Thursday that international drug traffickers are trying to infiltrate that body of the Nicaragua National Army to recruit its servicemen.

The official said that mafia members disguised as honorable people approach soldiers to learn about Navy operative plans, the local press published this Thursday.

In the last three years 12 000 kg of cocaine have been confiscated, with a value in the local market of 231 million dollars, but in the US its price is five times higher, according to the military.

The Nicaraguan Caribbean is one the paths most used by drug dealers to move merchandise from South America to the US, the main narcotics consumer of the world.

However, in the last months the authorities warned that as result of the increase of the surveillance in the Atlantic, drug dealers have began to use the Pacific area.

An example of that is the case of a Cessna plane that appeared on a road in Nicaragua´s west on May 20.

The police suspect the plane was used to move a heavy shipment of drugs that was transported by the Pacific coast.
