Nicaragua Steps Up Solidarity with Cuban Five
Nicaragua's Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and Venezuela, committed to fight for the release of the five Cubans Unfairly jailed in the US since 1998.

Committee leader Edgardo Garcia pledged to continue denounces and increase contact with US citizens to raise awareness on the innocence Five Cuban heroes Fernando Gonzalez, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino and Gerardo Hernandez.

The group were arrested Sep 1998 for monitoring Anti-Cuba terrorist organizations based in south Florida were given unfair, biased sentences at trials in Miami.

The defense appealed the sentences at the 11th Circuit of Appeals in Atlanta that after a thorough study of the case annulled the sentences on Aug 9, 2005 and ordered holding a new trial.

Yet the US Administration, hoping to extend their prison term, said the case was seen by 12 Justices at the Court in Atlanta on February 14, so it is about to issue its verdict too.

"The Cuban Five should be free," added the Nicaraguan activist, who called to send to jail terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles, who blasted a Cuban airliner in 1976 with 73 people aboard, among many other crimes.

Garcia added that the committee will also press to lift the over four-decade US anti-Cuba commercial, economic and financial blockade.

He also called Nicaragua and the world to be aware of what he termed as pretext to attack Cuba the State Department allegations on water and power cut to the US Interest Section in Havana.
