Former President Pacheco Investigation Moved to Common Prosecutor's Office
The case against former president Abel Pacheco that was been carried out be the Fiscalía General (prosecutor's office) has passed unto the hands of the "common" prosecutor.

The case was moved to the regular prosecutor's office once Pacheco lest office and lost his immunity.

While Pacheco was in office, only the Fiscal General could proceed with the case against a member of the Supremos Poderes, like the president.

Pacheco is being investigated for apparent irregularities in his 2002 presidential campaign financing. The case against Pacheco also includes "enriquecimiento ilícito" (illegal enrichment) relating to airline tickets given to Pacheco for his personal trip to Miami, Florida and a membership received by him at a beach club in the Dominican Republic.

Pacheco defended his actions returning the club membership and claiming that he paid his own way to his trip to Spain, that included the Miami portion of the trip, and that he never used the free tickets given to the presidential office by the TACA Group airline.

The prosecutor's office continued the investigation while Pacheco was in the president's office. However, now that Pacheco does not have the immunity, the Fiscalía explained it was better to move the case to the common prosecutors office, that will be completing the investigation.

The case involves documents by the Consejo de Gobierno (Government Counsel) on "freebies" given to the president. Judicial officials now have the task of interpreting the "Ley de enriquecimiento ilícito" and to determine if Pacheco broke the law while in office.
