Flower and Plant Exports
An increase in employment in
rural areas is expected as a
result of an expansion of
exports of flowers and
decoration plants this year, the
Costa Rican Flower Growers
Association announced.
The sector exports have steadily
increased since 2001, and from
that year through 2005 they went
from us$23 million to us$35
million, according to the
Association.
The sources said that Costa Rica
is exporting close to 11,000
tons of flowers and 50,000 tons
of decoration plants a year, and
the leading markets are the
United States, Canada, and
Holland.
