Nicaraguan Army to Back Election
Checks
The Nicaraguan Army announced
the mobilization of 3,500
soldiers on the next two
weekends to support the Supreme
Election Council verification of
voting lists.
Spokesman Col. Adolfo Zepeda
said the armed forces will also
supply four helicopters, two
planes, 38 boats, 96 vehicles
and 358 communication devices.
The verification on June 10, 11,
17 and 18 will confirm data for
1.8 million people of the total
3.2 million registered voters,
and deliver over 200,000 ID
cards the owners have not
claimed.
Nicaraguan voters will choose a
president, a vice president, 91
members of the National Assembly
and 20 members of the Central
American Parliament.
