Mexican presidential candidate's supporters invade electoral agency
Supporters of left-wing presidential candidate Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador invaded Mexico's vote counters on Thursday, after official counts indicated he had lost the July 2 elections.

In an atypical protest, dozens of men and women, released chickens outside the building of the Federal Electoral Institute and then disrupted a council meeting. IFE President Luis Carlos Ugalde responded by calling the police.

Obrador has called on his supporters to take acts of civil disobedience to promote his call for a recount, saying that the elections were marred by numerous irregularities and fraudulent counts.

The IFE awarded the election victory to right-wing candidate Felipe Calderon, giving him a slender advantage of 0.58 percentage points in the July 2 elections.

Protestors placed banners on a statue of national hero Benito Juarez, chanting "No More IFE Support for Calderon", "Support Electoral Legitimacy" and "Vote by Vote, Ballot by Ballot."

Mexico's government spokesman Ruben Aguilar demanded that the nation's law be obeyed, and urged citizens to "respect the law and behave themselves according to democratic values."
