Garcia names Castillo as
Peru's new premier
Peru's president-elect Alan
Garcia on Thursday named the
secretary general of his Peru
Aprist Party (PAP), Jorge del
Castillo, as the new premier.
Garcia, to be formally sworn in
on Friday, announced the
appointment at a news
conference. He also unfolded the
lineup of 15 candidates for
cabinet ministers.
Garcia said he had confidence in
the new cabinet, and hoped all
the members to work honestly and
effectively to improve the
living conditions of the
Peruvian people.
According to the cabinet lineup,
Jose Garcia Belaunde will be the
foreign minister; Allan Wanger
Tizon, the defense minister;
Mercedes Araoz,the foreign trade
and tourism minister; and Jose
Chang Escobedo, the education
minister.
