Menchu Bummed about Guatemala
Rigoberta Menchu, native Guatemalan leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, affirmed she is disappointed with the Congressional management and limited governmental efforts in favor to fight poverty and insecurity.

In an interview published Monday by Siglo XXI daily, Menchu assured the government of the Big National Alliance could have done more for the indigenous population.

"The thing was to give priority to the most urgent cases, and focus on the people going through very difficult situations, including famine," Menchu said.

Referring to insecurity, she said she was disillusioned because Congress does not pass laws to fight crime, due to excessive bureaucracy and low police wages.

She similarly criticized the stance of political parties and politicians who, according to her, are eager to rise the ranks in government.

Speaking on the ongoing electoral campaign, Menchu lamented that the best choices will be for the richest, because that will allow them to influence Guatemalans.
