Regular Gasoline Going Up Too!
Last Friday the Refinadora
Costarricense de Petróleo (Recope)
- state monopoly on gasoline
refinery and distribution -
announced a hike in the price of
super gasoline, sparing regular
and diesel gasoline.
The announcement said that it
has requested the Autoridad
Reguladora de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep) - the state
agency that regulates prices of
public services - a ¢17 colones
hike in the price of a litre of
super gasoline.
Well, yesterday, he announcement
came for a hike in the price of
regular as well.
Recope is requesting a ¢19
colones per litre hike in the
price of regular gasoline. When,
and not if, the increase if
approved, the price of a litre
of regular gasoline will jump
from the current ¢550 colones to
¢569.
When the price of super gasoline
is approved, it will jump from
the current ¢575 to ¢592.
The approvals are expected this
week, which could see prices at
the pump increase as early as
this weekend.
The reason for the increase is
being blamed to the high
vacation and travel season in
the United States placing excess
demand on gasoline products and
the failure of the refineries to
meet the demands, and the crisis
in the Middle East.
