Chavez & Morales to Summit of
Peoples
Presidents of Venezuela and
Bolivia, Hugo Chavez and Evo
Morales, are expected to speak
at the closing of a forum of
Latin American peoples´
organizations in Cordoba, on
July 21, sources close to the
meeting revealed.
Both top leaders, who are also
scheduled to attend a Summit of
the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR),
will be the main speakers in the
closing ceremony of the
three-day “Summit of the Peoples
for South American Sovereignty
and Integration” to be held at
the University Campus.
In exclusive remarks to Prensa
Latina, Juan Gonzalez,
coordinator of the Summit of the
Peoples, said that the closing
ceremony will follow a march by
social, union and human rights
movements taking part in the
forum, which is a follow-up to
the third Summit of the Peoples
held in Mar del Plata in
November.
The organizations took up the
debate about true integration of
the peoples, far from rules
established by neoliberalism,
and rather closer to the
Venezuela-promoted Bolivarian
Alternative for the Americas
(ALBA).
Main issues in seminars include
the rejection of free trade
agreements with the US and the
foreign debt, and support of
economic independence with
financial sovereignty.
