Salvadorans Call for Peaceful
March
El Salvador political and social
sectors are preparing a mass
concentration Saturday, in favor
of peace and against the
violence flaying the country,
members of the organizing
committee confirmed on
Wednesday.
Under the slogan “Yes to Peace,
No to Violence”, the
demonstration will be carried
out at the monument to the
Savior of the World and
participants have been asked to
wear a white arm band or other
white emblem.
Referring to the convocation,
President Antonio Saca commented
that he thought it a “right call
that I support and that all
citizens should support.”
The FMLN party (Farabundo Marti
National Liberation) expressed
satisfaction at the initiative
and called on the government to
boost a transparent and sincere
dialogue to find solutions for
the existing poverty and social
discomfort.
According to press reports, the
peace demonstration is a
response to the polarization in
El Salvador since July 5, when
police trying to disband a
demonstration were attacked by
an armed demonstrator.
The act left two police dead and
another 10 wounded.
