Racsa's
Internet Rates Coming Down
The Radiográfica Costarricense (Racsa)
announced yesterday that it too
will be reducing internet
connection rates by about 50% to
match the rates for the Acelera
service provided by the
Instituto Costarricense de
Electricidad (ICE).
According to Mario Zaragoza,
press spokesperson for Racsa,
the board of directors is
expected to approve the
reduction at tomorrow session
which then has to be sent to the
Reguladora de los Servicios
Públicos (Aresep) - the
government regulator of public
prices and services.
The reduction will become
effective in August.
What the reduction means in real
terms, for example, is the
connection of 128 Kpbs that
Racsa now charges us$35 per
month will cost us$17.
Racsa currently has 25.000
subscribers by way of cable
modem, 45.000 customers on dial
up, 43.000 customers who use the
900Enlinea and 9.000 customers
who use prepaid cards to connect
to the world wide web.
ICE's Acelera provides ADSL
internet connection by way of
its telephone lines. Racsa is a
subsidiary of ICE, however, the
two compete for internet
customers.
