Peru Congress Reshuffling
The joint preparatory executive committee that will swear in 120 legislators for the 2006-2011 period will be conformed Monday in the Peruvian Congress headquarters.

The short list is made up of the youngest legislator Luciana Leon, the oldest Martha Hildebrant, as well as the parliamentarian who received most votes and with more popular support during the recent general elections, Carlos Torres.

The latter, who will preside over the Board until the integration of the Parliament on July 25, said the country will reinforce security measures so those elected in the April 9 polls respect rules.

Torres was a candidate for the first vice presidency of the Union for Peru Party (UPP), then he abandoned that group and created the Peruvian Democratic Party, alleging discrepancies with that party's potential presidential candidate Ollanta Humala.

With 44 seats, the UPP got the first minority that will accompany Peruvian APRA Party with 36, from President-Elect Alan Garcia, and the National United Alliance, 17, from former aspirant Lourdes Flores.

The 120 congress people will be sworn in on July 25, three days before President Alejandro Toledo hands over power to re-elected Garcia (1985-1990).
