Colombia Legislative Vote May Be
Annulled
The Colombian Inspector
General´s office has demanded
the annulment of the poll that
elected the Senate for the
second term of office of
President Alvaro Uribe for
fraudulent actions.
According to the Public
Ministry, there were
irregularities such replacement
of ballots and manipulation of
documents in the March 12 vote.
In parallel, the Prosecuror´s
General office requested a new
canvass with the exclusion of
6,500 voting tables.
Now, the 5th Section of the
Council of State has six months
to develop the process and ruled
on it as the Constitution sets.
For those elections, 857
candidates were jockeying for
102 seats at the Senate and over
5,000 for 166 slots at the House
of Representatives.
On July 20, Uribe and the
Legislative power are slated to
take office.
