Central American Business to
Seek Opportunities in China
Costa Rica is organizing a
series of visits for Central
American business people,
including Costa Ricans, to trade
fairs in China this year, the
country's Chamber of Exporters (Cadexco)
said on Monday.
Cadexco would organize trips to
several trade fairs in Beijing,
Shanghai and Guangdong, said
Monica Araya, director of the
organization.
"There are a great many
opportunities for Costa Rican
entrepreneurs; for coffee
exporters, soft-drink makers,
and vegetable growers," Araya
said.
"Chinese investors are also
interested in Costa Rica because
of the possibility that Costa
Rica may ratify free trade
agreements with the United
States and the European Union,"
she added.
From Sep. 1, Cadexco is also to
hold a series of seminars for
business people who hope to take
part in the trade mission, aimed
at helping them understand how
business is done in China and
learn more about each trade
fair.
The bilateral trade volume
between Costa Rica and China has
been surging in recent years,
according to data released by
China's General Administration
of Customs.
In April, China's export to and
import from Costa Rica reached
nearly us$112 million
dollars, and the trade in
January-April reached nearly
us$480 million dollars, up 92.4
percent from the previous year.
