Cuba Leads Central America Games Athletics
Cuba commands the historic medal tally in women´s track and field of the Central American and Caribbean Games with 221 medals including 221 gold, 69 silver and 50 bronze.

Females athletes of the small Island lead 16 of 22 events included in the current program. The only events in which they have won no golds are 10,000 meters, 1,500 meters, marathon, 20 km walk and pole vault.

Hilda Ramirez, Carmen Romero, Eloina Echevarria and Ana Fidelia Quirot stand out individually, as they won in their respective events in five games in a row.

Ana Fidelia Quirot was most outstanding of them, winning eight titles from Medellin 1978 to Mexico 1990, including wins in 400 and 800 meters in Mexico and Santiago de los Caballeros 1986.

Quirot won her last Central American and Caribbean medal (silver) in Ponce 1993, only two months after she was operated on given severe burns.

Cuban female athletes achieved a remarkable deed in Panama 1970, when they took 31 of 36 medals awarded.
