Spain Silent on Guatemala Warrant
Guatemalan courts are yet to receive an official Spanish response to the international arrest warrant issued in Madrid for ex dictator Efrain Rios Montt and other oppressors.

Saul Alvarez, who chairs the Guatemalan court engaged in the case, told reporters they are still waiting for official information from Spain.

Besides the warrant for Rios Montt, Spanish National Hearing Judge

Santiago Pedraz requested for the arrest of ex Head of State Oscar Mejia Victores, ex Defense Minister Angel Anibal Guevara and ex Army Joint of Staff Chief Benedicto Lucas Garcia.

Pedraz also requested the detention of Colonel German Chupina, ex Government Minister Donaldo Alvarez Ruiz and Pedro Garcia Arredondo, who run a police corps accused of extra-judicial executions in the armed conflict.

Lawyers of Rios Montt hold the warrant issued for him as inadmissible because Spanish courts do not have jurisdiction in his country.

Rios Montt and the above-mentioned oppressors are accused of the massacre at the Spanish embassy in 1980, the disappearance and murder of thousands of political opponents and leaders and the destruction of rural towns.
