The Michael Ludwick Hostage Standoff: His Story In His Own Words
Last week, Mike Ludwick,
armed to the teeth held his wife and three children hostage in their home in Bello Horizonte, in Escazú.

The family was allowed to leave shortly after police were called to the scene around 6:00pm, as, the man's wife helped them identify the problem and told them that he had a shotgun and a pistol, with ample ammunition, in the house.

For almost 18 hours after the call to police, a police armored vehicle with a negotiator inside was able to get close to the home and talk to the man, who finally gave himself up.

Several insidecostarica.com readers sent in an email pointing to a website where Ludwick told his side of the story. One reader wrote that the man was "making a mockery of your country, the Costa Rican people and your newspaper".

A check of the internet registrar reveals that both Interfun.net and Chatropolis.com list Jimenez R., Angera Partricia (Ludwick;s wife) as the "administrative contact".

Follwoing is a copy of Ludwick's post on Chatropolis on July 1, 2006 (with spelling mistakes corrected):

News Title: I Just Can't Make This Shit Up!!!
Posted By:  Michael Ludwick

I think everyone is aware of my chronic pain issue. If the pain goes longer than a few days with out medication I'm a little difficult to be around.

So on Tuesday of this week I lost it. Ripped off a couple of doors and even shot one door to death. No big deal. How wrong could I have been. Without telling me my wife took everyone to the police and begged them to get me some pain killers. The immediately escalated the situation.

To make the even more scared my neighbor said I was a Russian Terrorist, had several dogs trained to kill and even had some variety of tiger trained to kill everyone. What he means is I have 6 Bassett hounds and a cat none of which will do anything I ask, never mind killing anyone.

So now the situation is fucked. The have 3 full blown SWAT teams and at least as many uniformed officers..

The plan... They get an Ambulance and they say they had some Morphine for me. They looked a little stressed and wanted me to go to them. So now I know I will a tleast get a shot before an uneventful arrest.  Again was I fucking wrong.

When the ambulance doors opened I had 50 riffles at (sic) nutsack  level. So I complied for some informal questioning downtown. Again I am a fuckwit. They drop me in a sublevel cell so deep I didn't know what day it was when I got upstairs.

The charge was a weapons beef that is now of no value because they left me in the hole for 36 hours. Very illegal even for these brain dead dick (sic) swallowers. They also did not give me a phone call during the first 24 hours....again very not legal.

The articles, tv and radio all told of the capture of world famous Russian terrorist Mike Ludwiski and his exploits with killer animals and firearms. I was also accused of firing twice at my (sic) nonut neighbor. 2 shots would be a waste of an 80 cent bullet.

So I slept in a putrid puddle for a few days and will soon own several newspapers, a tv station and the house next store.

Slander/libel laws are fucking tough down here. So good for me bad for them.

I will update in a few days.
