Murders Drop in Guatemala
The number of bodies with signs of torture dropped drastically to only two cases this week in Guatemala, after repeated denunciations of alleged social cleansing in the country.

Last week, 21 bodies of alleged guerrilla fighters were found in the country.

The corpses had their hands and legs tied up with wire, and most of them had received a coup de grace and showed signs of torture.

Some 100 similar cases have been reported so far this year, according to the Group for Mutual Support, one of many humanitarian organizations that have denounced the social cleansing that might involve members of security corps.

Human Rights Prosecutor Sergio Morales expressed certainty about such a practice in Guatemala, and met with cabinet members early this week to discuss the issue.
