Three Times Number Of Children
With Burns From Fireworks
The Hospital Nacional de Niños
(children's hospital) has put
out an alert due to the high
number of children with burns
from fireworks, a situation
hospital officials call a time
bomb.
The holiday season is a time for
people to set off fireworks to
celebrate. However, the misuse
and illegal sale of fireworks
results in injuries and this
year is no different.
During the this holiday, 11
children have been admitted to
the medical centre after being
severely burned, a number
hospital officials say is three
times that of past years.
Hospital officials and police
authorities are asking citizens
to report the sale of fireworks
to minors in an effort to curb
the growing number of injuries.
Costa Rican law punishes with
from three to seven years prison
time for anyone selling
fireworks minors.
