Police Had The Goods Under Their Noses All Of The Time
From the utterly stupid and inept department, officials of the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) in Quepos had the goods under their noses all of the time and without knowing it.

It appears that almost 2 tonnes of cocaine that was part of the drug bust on December 16 in Playa Bandera, Parrita, was hidden in two fishing boats that were confiscated during the police operationand kept in storage in a Ministerio de Seguridad Pública storage facility.

In the two boats, authorities found 1.779 kilos of the illegal drug. During the police operation on December 16, authorities suspected a large quantity of drugs was being handled by drug traffickers but were unable to find the actual drugs.

Meanwhile, three of the individuals arrested that day were set free by a court on the basis of lack of evidence. The OIJ now has begun a search of the men. With egg on their face, the OIJ,  had to inform Colombian authorities who had been alerted of the arrest and of the possible deportation of the Colombian nationals, three of which were deported to the island San Andres the day following the arrests for being illegal in the country.

Colombian officials claim that the shipment is part of an organized effort by the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC), who have extended their drug operations to include Costa Rica.

The drug bust came the day following the deportation of Martínez Quinto, who had been wanted in Colombian and living in Costa Rica for some time, working as a fisherman in Puntarenas and believed to be a key figure in the FARC drug operation.

The vice-minister of Seguridad, Rafael Gutiérrez, said that they had received information that drug traffickers had planned to destroy one of the two boats confiscated. Officials of the OIJ and the Servicio Nacional de Guardacostas (coast guard) found the hidden stash of drugs on closer inspection of the fishing boats, cleverly hidden in between fiber glass panels on the floor of the boats.
