Cold Front Brings Cold Weather
For Another Day
A cold front hovering over Costa
Rica has brought chills to many
communities and heavy rain and
flooding in the Caribbean coast.
The cold front is expected to
continue for another 24 hours,
according to the Instituto
Meteorológico Nacional (IMN),
the country's weatherman.
Temperatures last night dipped
to a low of 15C in San José and
much lower in the high altitudes
of the Central Valley. Highs of
only 23C are expected in the
northern zone of the Caribbean
coast, while temperatures will
remain slightly below normal in
all other areas.
For example, the Guanacaste
region will see a high of only
32C today, instead of its normal
38C to 40C, while in San José,
the expected high is only 25C,
instead of the normal 28C,
though it will feel colder due
to the cold winds.
The cold front also means
increased cloud, showers and
rain in some areas.
The Comisión Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE) has declared a
"green" alert for the Caribbean
areas, from the northern zones
of Sarapiquí to the south in
Puerto Viejo, where rain is
causing flooding and mud slides.
The weather should return to
"normal" December conditions by
tomorrow at the latest, the IMN
says.
