Bolivia, Mining+Oil+Gas
Development
The Bolivian government expects
that mining will become an
important factor for national
development, as a complement to
the hydrocarbon sector, judging
by top official declarations
released Friday in La Paz.
On January 1 Bolivia will begin
the year of mining (2006 was
that of hydrocarbons), announced
Mining Minister Guillermo
Dalence, as quoted by the
Bolivian Information Agency.
During a rally on Thursday in
Huanuni, an important mining
region, Dalence highlighted how
much the hydrocarbon recovery
meant to the country, such
income allowing creation of
programs like the elementary
school Juancito Pinto Bonus.
Mining will allow broadening
this bonus to the students of
other levels, he asserted.
The official explained the new
panorama in Bolivia, and how
Huanuni will become the pivot
for the Bolivian Mining
Corporation.
The 5,000 workers that are now
incorporated into Huanuni will
give new life to this center,
where important historic and
cultural events occurred he
said, referring to the massacre
of miners on December 21, 1942
in the Maria Barzola fields.
