Purple Monster Rules!
The streets of Costa Rica were
quiet last night as most Costa
Ricans were glued to their
television sets to watch the
annual squaring off of the
country's top two soccer teams,
the Liga Deportiva Alajuelense
and Deportiva Saprissa.
The game was played at Ricardo
Saprissa stadium in Tibás, which
was filled to the brim, as fans
watched their loved "purple
monster" (Saprissa team) beat
out the rivals 2-0.
The first goal, according to
Liga fans, was a gift, taken
from a strong left kick by
Alonos Solís during a penalty
shot about half way into the
second half of the game.
Down 1-0, Liga fans believed
that a tie would be a great end.
But, that was not the case as
Allan Aleman came in with a
right kick, putting the ball
past the Liga goaltender.
A rematch between the two clubs
will be this Saturday, as the
Liga and Saprissa square off in
the Alejandro Morera Soto
stadium in Alajuela.
Ligistas are confident that they
will be able to tame the purple
monster on home turf.
