Silence over Nicaraguan Cabinet
Given the discretion of elected
Nicaraguan authorities,
political circles are
speculating over the composition
of the cabinet that will
accompany President Daniel
Ortega from January 10.
The only minister named so far
is the prestigious educator
Miguel de Castilla, whom Ortega
appointed for the education
ministry long before the
November 5 presidential
elections.
The rest of the designations are
mere speculation, with some
names resounding stronger than
others, following conjectures
from "sources close to the
Sandinista National Liberation
front," local press, or outgoing
ministers.
Regarding that, rumor has it
that Dr. Maritza Quant would be
named as public health minister,
while Emilio Rapacciolli would
occupy the energy and
hydrocarbon ministry.
When questioned about it, during
his ever less frequent addresses
to the media, Ortega only
smiles, replying the cabinet
will be announced "when the time
comes."
